Pomona tote: an ode in crochet
Pomona is the Roman Goddess of gardens and fruit trees. She watches over and protects fruit trees and cares for their cultivation. But the main reason behind me naming this filet crochet tote pattern Pomona is to give my tribute to the Herbology Professor of Hogwarts, Pomona Sprout. She is one of many unsung heroes in the Harry Potter series. Pomona tote is my way of paying her tribute.
Construction
Pomona tote is constructed in one piece from bottom up. It has a solid base and band with an alternating rows of double crochet and single crochet. This ensures a strong base. The body of the filet crochet tote is lacy and has a zig zag pattern formed using the filet technique. The handles of the tote are made separately and attached to the body.
In the pattern you will find both written instructions and illustrations to make the tote. Instructions for the base of the tote is supplemented using a crochet stitch chart and that of the body with filet crochet grid illustrations. Thus Pomona tote crochet pattern for the filet crochet tote is fully equipped for all kinds of makers.
Prerequisites for the filet crochet tote
The tote is designed with filet crochet technique, where every solid block is a 3-dc and open block, dc,ch1,dc. While placing the stitches in the ch1-sp, place them below the chain and not into the chain. To learn the fundamentals of filet crochet technique, read THIS post.
