Keep it Simple tote, as the name suggests, a quick to make and easy crochet market tote pattern. This tote is meant to have an easy start to the series and is designed with the most basic stitches of crochet. It is one of the two lacy totes in the series.

ch – chain
cdc – chainless double crochet (can be substituted with ch3)
dc – double crochet
fsc – foundation single crochet
R – round
sc – single crochet
slst – slip stitch
sk – skip
sp – space
st(s) – stitch(es)
Special Stitches
- V-st – beginning V-stitch
(cdc, ch3, dc) in the same st/sp
- V-st – V stitch
(dc, ch3, dc) in the same st/sp
- dc2tog – two double crochet placed together
*yarn over, insert hook into the next st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops* two loops on the hook, sk 3sts, repeat **, three loop on hook, yarn over and pull through all three loops
Gauge
The base measures 4” after round 6
Finished dimension
Base: 10” square
Height: 17” from tip centre of the base to the point where handles are attached when laid flat (excluding the handles)
Note
- The tote is worked in rounds. So, there is no turning after every round
- Do remember to skip three stitches between the legs of the dc2tog
- Slst to the next ch3-sp to begin the next round

R1: ch6, *dc, ch3* thrice, sl to join at the 3rd chain in the initial ch6
R2: Beg.V-st in ch3-sp, *ch1, dc on dc, ch1, V-st in ch3-sp* thrice, ch1, dc on ch3 of prev row, ch1, slst to cdc
R3:B.V-st in ch3-sp, *(ch1, dc on next dc) till the ch3-sp, ch1, V-st in ch3-sp* thrice, (ch1, dc on next dc) till the cdc, ch1, slst to cdc
R4-15: Repeat R3
You can increase or decrease the number of repeats for the larger or smaller base of the tote
Lay your square flat.
place a stitch marker on the 14th and 16th dc on each side. Refer picture below
If you have altered the size, find the dc in the centre of each side and place a stitch marker in the double crochet before and after the centre one.
Body
R1: B.V-st in ch3-sp, *(ch1, dc on next dc) until before the marker, ch1, dc2tog, (ch1, dc on next dc) till the ch3-sp, ch1, V-st in ch3-sp* thrice, (ch1, dc on next dc) until before the marker, ch1, dc2tog, (ch1, dc on next dc) till the ch3-sp, ch1 till the cdc, ch1, slst to cdc.
Place marker on dc before and after dc2tog
R2-R20: Repeat R1
You can increase or decrease the number of repeats for taller or shorter tote
Note: From R2, the two legs of the dc2tog fall respectively on the marked stitches. You will be skipping ch1, dc2tog, ch1 between the legs
R21: cdc, ch1, *fsc70, dc on next ch3-sp, (ch1, dc on next dc) until before the marker, ch1, dc2tog, (ch1, dc on next dc) till the ch3-sp, ch1,* dc on ch3-sp, repeat **, slst to cdc
Note: ch1 does not count as a stitch but acts as an anchor to your first fsc. You can increase or decrease the number of fsc for longer or shorter handles
Place marker on dc before and after dc2tog
R22: cdc, *dc70, dc next dc, (ch1, dc on next dc) until before the marker, ch1, dc2tog, (ch1, dc on next dc) until before last dc, ch1,* dc on next dc, repeat **, slst to cdc.
R23: ch1 (does not count as stitch), sc in each st including the ch1-sps, slst to the first slst.
Fasten off and weave in the ends
