Arabella Pouch is a filet drawstring pattern designed in an attempt to take the filet crochet technique beyond home décor. It is a multi-functional crochet pouch pattern with a solid base and band and lacy body. It is a simple filet crochet pattern and the finished product is extremely lightweight.
Arabella Pouch: an ode in crochet
Arabella is a name of Latin origin meaning ‘yielding to prayers’. It also means a beautiful Arab woman. But the main reason behind me naming this filet crochet drawstring pouch pattern Arabella, is to give my tribute to the squib in the Harry Potter series, Arabella Figg. She was the one who watched Harry over during his stay over his aunt’s. She is one of many unsung heroes in the Harry Potter series. Arabella Pouch is my way of paying her tribute.
Construction
Arabella pouch is constructed in one piece from bottom up. It has a solid base and band with an alternating rows of double crochet and single crochet. This ensures a strong base. The body of the crochet drawstring pouch is lacy and has a checker-board pattern formed using the filet technique. The drawstring of the pouch is made separately and attached to the body.
In the pattern you will find both written instructions and illustrations to make the pouch. Written instruction is supplemented with filet crochet grid illustrations. Thus Arabella Pouch crochet pattern for the crochet drawstring pouch is fully equipped for all kinds of makers.
Prerequisites for the filet crochet tote
The pouch is designed with filet crochet technique, where every solid block is a 3-dc and open block, dc,ch1,dc. While placing the stitches in the ch1-sp, place them below the chain and not into the chain. To learn the fundamentals of filet crochet technique, read THIS post.
